One of the best thing about the Nutcracker Christmas ornament collection is that they somehow managed to make nutcrackers based on other storylines.
The Tin Man Nutcracker is from the Wizard of Oz. And he's really fantastic. He is around 16 inches tall. And completely made out of wood, instead of tin. But the details are so precise, that from afar, the silver and copper finish look like real silver and copper trimmings.
You just gotta check him out. Take a look at his face. He looks so dopey!
I'm fond of the tinman. When he met Dorothy, he didn't have a heart so he couldn't love anyone. I read up a little bit on his backstory since I'm not familiar with the children's novel. Poor guy.
The tin man started out as a woodsman in the land of Oz who was in love with the woman of his dreams and was about to marry her. But the Wicked Witch of the East cursed his axe. The woodsman's axe began chopping off his limbs. And each time a limb was chopped off, the local tinsmith replaced it with a prosthetic limb made out of tin. More limbs came off and soon, he was all made of tin, but the tinsmith forgot to replace his heart. Eventually, without a heart, he couldn't fall in love anymore so he no longer had any feelings to marry his girl. Hence, when he met Dorothy, his personal quest for Emerald City was to find a heart and fall in love again.
